If you’re anything like me, you know that feeling – it’s the end of your Disney World vacation, and you have to return home.

You’ve made your magical memories, explored iconic attractions, and snapped a few photos with your favorite characters. But now, you’re stuck in an awkward limbo between checking out of your resort and waiting for your flight.

Your last hours at Disney don’t have to be dull. Whether you’re waiting for an early afternoon flight or you’ve got hours to kill, Disney World has plenty to keep you entertained.

Here are seven fun, relaxing, and downright magical ways to pass the time before you head to the resort.

How to Enjoy the Last Few Hours at Disney World

#1 – Explore Disney Springs for Last-Minute Shopping and Dining

Disney Springs is the ultimate go-to when you have a few hours to spare and want to soak in some final Disney vibes.

With over 100 stores, unique restaurants, and live entertainment, there’s no shortage of things to do!

Stop by World of Disney for that last-minute souvenir.

Or, grab a gourmet cookie or cake from Gideon’s Bakehouse (don’t forget to check for a virtual queue).

One of my favorites is to hang by the waterfront with a handcrafted cocktail from Jock Linsey’s Hangar Bar.

If you’re feeling peckish, Disney Springs offers a range of dining options, from quick bites like D-Luxe Burger to the absolutely hearty, mouth-watering entrees at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’.

Whether you’re indulging in a decadent dessert or window-shopping for a final Disney keepsake, Disney Springs is the perfect place to extend the magic!

#2 – Resort ‘Hop’ and Enjoy the Scenery

It always surprises me the number of visitors who don’t take the time to enjoy the Disney resorts. In my opinion, it’s one of the best-kept secrets of Disney World, especially during the holiday season.

Hop on a monorail and explore the luxury of the Grand Floridian. Or, check out the nearby, vibrant Polynesian Village Resort. If you’re looking for retro charm, the Contemporary Resort is not to be missed!

We love the unique touches and themes within each resort, often having fantastic landscaping and fun, Disney-themed decor around the property.

While you’re there, grab a snack! My personal favorites are a Dole Whip at the Polynesian’s Pineapple Lanai or beignets at Port Orleans – French Quarter.

#3 – Relax at Your Resort’s Pool or Lounging Areas

If you’ve already checked out of your hotel room but don’t have to leave the property for a while, make the most of the resort amenities!

While it depends on your resort, you should be able to enjoy the pool and lounge areas after check-out. Why not spend a few peaceful hours by the pool while soaking in the last bit of Florida sunshine?

We have had no problem with using the pool after check-out; however, resorts with restricted access might cut you off. We recommend checking with your resort before check-out.

Some resorts also have the most beautiful lobbies and lounging spaces. Relax with a book or just enjoy the ambiance!

#4 – Savor the Last Magical Sips at a Disney Resort Bar

If you’re like us, one of your favorite traditions is having a drink at the pool bar on your check-in day. So, why not have one when you check out?

You could stop by Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Resort for a tiki drink (if you have ample time to spare); or, if you’re pressed for time, try one of the pool bars for an early afternoon libation.

Even if you’re not staying at a particular resort, you can still visit and enjoy the experience. Some Disney resort bars offer themed drinks and stunning views, turning an ordinary bar crawl into a memorable send-off.

#5 – Ride the Skyliner

A great way to pass the time without much effort is riding the Disney Skyliner.

This gondola system connects several resorts and two parks, offering a birds-eye view of Disney property.

It’s free to use, and you can hop on at one of the following locations:

  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Epcot’s International Gateway (walkable from Disney’s BoardWalk and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club resorts)

Take in the beautiful aerial views of the parks, resorts, and waterways for a relaxing and scenic experience. Plus, you can grab a quick snack or drink, if you get off at one of the resorts.

In fact, we have an article all about navigating the Disney Skyliner Bar Crawl!

#6 – Indulge in a Character Breakfast or Lunch

If you have little ones in tow, it can be tough to entertain them while trying to keep the peace before a flight. Why not squeeze in one last character meal before you leave?

If your flight isn’t until later in the afternoon, consider booking a character breakfast or brunch at one of the resort hotels.

Options like Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort or Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort allow you to enjoy a meal with Mickey and friends while reminiscing about your favorite moments on the trip.

So, not only do you get to enjoy delicious food, it’s also a great way to soak in a final bit of Disney magic with some character meet-and-greets and photo opportunities!

#7 – Catch a Movie at AMC Disney Springs 24

I know we touched on visiting Disney Springs, but the AMC movie theater is an activity in its own right.

If you’re looking for a quiet, cool place to unwind for a few hours, the AMC Disney Springs 24 is a fantastic option!

Whether you’re a fan of the latest blockbusters or just need to kill a couple of hours before heading to the airport, catching a movie is a relaxing and comfortable way to spend your last day.

Plus, with Disney Springs just outside the theater, you can always do some more shopping or grab a bite afterward.

With its large, comfortable seating and great concessions, the theater experience here is a treat in itself.

Leaving Disney World is tough. But, your last few hours don’t have to be wasted time!

Whether you’re treating yourself to one last indulgence, soaking up the magic of Disney’s resorts, or just strolling through Disney Springs, there’s always something to do before your flight.
