Disney resorts are part of the Walt Disney World experience. The themed lobbies, convenient transportation and unmistakable Disney atmosphere can make it tempting to stay inside the bubble (especially when you are already spending thousands of dollars on a vacation).

But Disney-owned resorts are not always the best value. No included breakfast and some resorts don’t have common amenities like on-site gyms.

On our recent adults-only Disney World trip, we stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando–Disney Springs Area for a few days, located on Hotel Plaza Boulevard near Disney Springs. We wanted to see whether a Disney Springs-area hotel could give us enough Disney benefits while leaving more money in the budget for dining, drinks and experiences.

So, is a Disney Springs-area resort worth it for adults?

Overall…yes, provided the room savings are substantial and you are willing to sacrifice some transportation convenience. For us, the Drury Plaza delivered impressive value through its included breakfast, evening food and drinks, lack of a resort fee and access to Early Theme Park Entry. However, the location was not quite as convenient as it appeared, and transportation required more planning than it would at a Disney-owned resort.

Let’s talk about our experience, how the savings breaks down, and what to consider for your next trip.

What Is the Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando?

The Drury Plaza is an Official Walt Disney World Hotel located approximately half a mile from Disney Springs. It’s not part of the Disney Resorts Collection, but guests receive select Disney benefits, including complimentary scheduled transportation to all four theme parks and 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry.

The hotel also includes several amenities that can reduce the real cost of a Disney vacation:

• A complimentary hot breakfast with the basic offerings
• The nightly 5:30 Kickback with hot food and beverages
• (3) Beer, wine and mixed drinks during the evening reception for each guest over 21
• Free Wi-Fi
• An in-room microwave and cooler
• A resort-style pool
• On-site gym
• No resort fee

Drury currently advertises free breakfast and its evening Kickback as part of every stay rather than as a separate package or room upgrade. That combination makes the Drury particularly interesting for travelers who want Disney convenience without paying Disney resort prices.

The Biggest Advantage: More Than Just a Lower Room Rate

When comparing Disney World hotels, it’s easy to look only at the nightly rate, but that often doesn’t tell the whole story. We found that the real value of the Drury Plaza comes from the expenses you may avoid during your stay.

Complimentary Breakfast Can Produce Real Savings

Disney breakfast prices add up quickly, even when you are only grabbing coffee and something small before heading to the parks. Even our favorite breakfast, the Egg & Bacon Bagel Sandwich, runs two of us $20 before we’re out the door!

At the Drury, the complimentary breakfast includes hot items such as eggs, sausage, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, fruit and coffee. It’s served daily, making it possible to start the morning with a substantial meal without purchasing breakfast in the parks or at Disney Springs.

For two adults staying several nights, that can represent a meaningful amount of money. With breakfast alone, we saved about $40 for our three-night stay.

Mornings start to appear easier. You don’t need to schedule a breakfast reservation, wait in a quick-service line, attempt to learn how to mobile order, or survive until lunchtime on a granola bar pulled from the bottom of your park bag.

The one potential conflict is Early Theme Park Entry. If you want to be at the front of the rope-drop crowd, you may need to eat as soon as breakfast opens — or, for one of our cases, skip the full breakfast on their earliest mornings.

The 5:30 Kickback Is Surprisingly Valuable

The Drury’s nightly 5:30 Kickback includes hot food, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.

Depending on the evening’s menu and your appetite, the Kickback can serve as a light dinner, a pre-dinner snack or a convenient meal between the parks and Disney Springs. The food is not a replacement for a signature Disney dining experience: to be honest, the food was overall lacking seasoning and was variable in its cookery, but it can prevent every evening from becoming another expensive restaurant bill. If you’re in the mood to save some $$$ by not going out every night, it’s a decent option.

For adults, the included beer, wine and mixed drinks add another layer of value. Disney cocktails can easily become one of the stealthiest expenses in a vacation budget. Having a drink at the hotel before heading out, or enjoying a low-key evening without going anywhere, can make the nightly room rate feel considerably more reasonable. We were given (3) beverages per person, per night. Just make sure you tip your bartender! (It’s the nice thing to do.)

In our opinion, this is where the Drury’s value goes beyond being merely “cheaper than Disney.” The hotel actively reduces your food and beverage spending.

You Still Receive One of Disney’s Most Useful Hotel Perks

Guests at the Drury Plaza currently qualify for 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry at all four Walt Disney World theme parks on every day of their stay, including check-in and checkout days.

Adulting WDW Tip: Add your reservation to the My Disney Experience app to make sure you have access to this benefit! We almost learned the hard way that as we were approaching the gates.

That is an important distinction between the Drury and a completely off-property hotel. Early Theme Park Entry can help you experience popular attractions before standby waits reach their midday peak. It does not guarantee an empty park, but it gives you the same early-entry window offered to guests at Disney-owned resorts.

For example, on our most recent trip, we rope-dropped Magic Kingdom. We were able to ride (5) different attractions within an hour-and-a-half, well before the park started to fill up. That alone makes it a meaningful benefit.

However, the Drury does not currently qualify for Extended Evening Theme Park Hours. That benefit is limited primarily to Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts and a small number of other participating hotels.

Therefore, the Drury gives you one of Disney’s broadest hotel perks, but not every perk like you would have with a premium Disney resort stay.

Disney Springs Is A Solid Adult-Friendly Selling Point

For an adults-only trip, being near Disney Springs sounds almost perfect.

Disney Springs offers an enormous collection of restaurants, lounges, shops and live entertainment. You can have cocktails at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, book a signature dinner, listen to live music or simply wander around with nowhere else you need to be.

That flexibility is especially appealing after a long park day. You don’t necessarily want another attraction queue or tightly scheduled reservation. Sometimes you want a good drink, an interesting dinner and an evening that feels spontaneous.

The Drury is officially describes itself as being approximately half a mile from Disney Springs. However, “near Disney Springs” and “effortlessly connected to Disney Springs” are not quite the same thing, which brings up the next talking point…

The Location Is Good, But Not as Convenient as It Sounds

Hotel Plaza Boulevard is close to Disney Springs on a map. In practice, the experience depends on the weather, your energy level and where you are trying to go inside Disney Springs.

A half-mile distance can sound like a quick stroll. But after walking several miles through a theme park or dealing with the Florida heat and storms all day, the return trip may feel much longer. All of a sudden, that walk feels a lot less luxurious than an air conditioned lobby.

Buses are available to Disney Springs; however, they’re on a strict schedule and on a first-come, first-served basis. While we didn’t have issues with getting on the bus to the Springs, I can imagine busier days being frustrating.

Disney Springs itself is large. Reaching the edge of the complex doesn’t necessarily mean you are close to the restaurant, lounge or shop you plan to visit.

While the location is still useful, we believe it simply should not be treated like staying at a hotel with Disney Springs directly outside your room.

If you plan to visit Disney Springs once or twice, the proximity is a nice benefit. For adults who imagine casually walking back and forth every evening, it may be less convenient than expected.

Transportation Is the Biggest Compromise

The Drury provides complimentary scheduled shuttle service to all four Disney theme parks. While that sounds similar to Disney transportation, the experience is not identical by any means.

Disney-owned resort transportation generally operates continuously during the main transportation window. Typically, resort transportation begins 45 minutes before park opening and continues for up to an hour after park closing. Depending on the resort, guests may have access to buses, boats, the monorail or the Disney Skyliner.

At a Disney Springs-area hotel, transportation is based on a schedule, which means you need to pay more attention to departure and return times.

You may not be able to leave the hotel at the exact moment you want. If you miss a shuttle or decide to leave a park unexpectedly, the next option may involve waiting or paying for a rideshare.

This was the clearest tradeoff for us. In fact, we found ourselves a little frustrated by it.

The transportation was available, but it wasn’t the same sense of freedom as Disney resort transportation. We had to think more carefully about when we wanted to leave, when we needed to return and whether using a rideshare was worth the additional cost.

In addition, the drop-off points aren’t ideal. For example, instead of the traditional bus stop next to the Magic Kingdom gates, we had to take transportation to the TTC to a designated area. For us, as we were trying to leave in the middle of the day in July, it became a very warm and uncomfortable wait.

If you’re like us and enjoy flexibility, especially those planning late dinners, lounge visits or spontaneous park hopping, access to multiple transportation throughout the day makes a difference.

Budget for Occasional Rideshares

Even when complimentary transportation is included, it is sensible to add a rideshare allowance to your budget.

A few Uber or Lyft trips may still leave you far ahead compared with the price of a Disney resort. But those trips should be counted when evaluating the hotel’s true savings.

For example, saving $100 per night on the room remains an excellent deal even after purchasing a couple of rideshares. Saving only $25 or $30 per night may be less compelling once parking, rideshares and the loss of Disney transportation convenience are included.

We had three rideshare experiences during our stay – both were acceptable and not more than $15 for a ride.

Do Not Forget the Parking Charge

The Drury does not charge a resort fee, which is a significant positive. However, the price can add up when you add a vehicle into the mix.

As of July 2026, the hotel lists self-parking at $28 per night. Hotel fees can change, so please verify the current amount before booking.

While it’s a factor for some, that does not automatically eliminate the value. It simply means the advertised room rate is not the final number for guests with a car.

When comparing hotels, calculate:

Room rate + taxes + parking + expected rideshare costs

Then subtract the approximate value of:

Breakfast + evening food + included drinks

That calculation provides a much more realistic comparison than looking at the room rates alone. For a couple days stay, it made sense. Any longer than that? We’re still on the fence.

What You Give Up by Not Staying at a Disney-Owned Resort

The Drury provides several Disney benefits, but it certainly doesn’t recreate the Disney resort experience.

You are giving up some combination of:

• Disney theming and immersive atmosphere
• More frequent or flexible Disney transportation
• Access to Disney Dining Plan packages
• Extended Evening Theme Park Hours
• Resort-specific activities and entertainment
• The feeling of remaining completely inside the Disney bubble

Whether any of that matters depends on your vacation style.

Some adults love returning to a heavily themed Disney resort and continuing the experience after leaving the parks. Others would rather have a comfortable, modern room and redirect the savings toward a memorable dinner, a behind-the-scenes tour or several very good cocktails.

Neither approach is wrong, and we have this conversation frequently when planning our vacations. You want to have money to spend, but you want a nice stay as well.

Who Will Get the Most Value From the Drury Plaza?

In our opinion, the Drury Plaza is especially well suited to adults who:

• Find a significant price difference compared with Disney resorts
• Value complimentary breakfast
• Will use the evening Kickback at least a few times
• Want Early Theme Park Entry
• Plan to spend time at Disney Springs
• Do not need elaborate Disney theming
• Are comfortable following a shuttle schedule, or are at least willing to use an occasional rideshare

It is also a strong option for adults taking a more relaxed trip. If you are not trying to arrive before sunrise and stay until the final park bus every night, the transportation limitations may be easier to manage.

For us as avid park goers? We’re still up in the air about it.

Who Should Probably Stay at a Disney Resort Instead?

A Disney-owned resort may be worth the additional cost when:

• Transportation convenience is one of your top priorities
• You want to come and go from the parks spontaneously
• You plan to take midday hotel breaks (trust us, trying to get back and forth to Drury Plaza was a challenge)
• Immersive Disney theming is an important part of the vacation
• You want access to a Disney Dining Plan
• You qualify for and plan to use Extended Evening Theme Park Hours
• The price difference is relatively small

A $40 nightly savings is very different from a $150 nightly savings.

When the rates are close, the convenience and atmosphere of a Disney resort can easily justify paying more. When the difference is substantial, the Drury becomes much harder to dismiss.

Adulting WDW Take: Is the Drury Plaza Worth It for Adults?

Overall, we believe the Drury Plaza can be an excellent value for an adults-only Disney World vacation, given some good-to-knows.

The complimentary breakfast, evening food, included drinks, Early Theme Park Entry and lack of a resort fee create savings that extend beyond the room rate. You can spend less on basic meals and put more of the budget toward the Disney experiences that matter most to you.

But the hotel is not a perfect replacement for a Disney-owned resort, and we’re not going to pretend it is.

The transportation requires more planning, the walk to Disney Springs may feel less convenient than expected and you lose some of the immersive atmosphere and premium Disney resort benefits. Plus, the Kickback and breakfast, while complimentary, could have used some culinary chops.

That said, our final verdict is relatively simple:

Stay at the Drury when the total savings are large enough to compensate for less convenient transportation. Stay at a Disney-owned resort when the price difference is small or when effortless transportation is central to your trip.

If you’re a value-focused adult that cares more about complimentary amenities and experiences than character statues in the lobby, a Disney Springs-area hotel can be absolutely worth it.
