Among the larger-than-expected list of watering holes at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, Belle Vue brings a turn-of-the-century vibe consistent with the motif of the Boardwalk Inn while offering a relaxing viewpoint of the goings-on of the resort courtyard.
Location
Getting to Belle Vue Lounge can be a bit tricky. Not only is it on the second floor of the main building of the Inn, it is tucked away in one of the wings on the East side of the resort.
Aesthetics
The theme of the lounge is pre-prohibition Americana similar to the overall feeling that the designers of the Boardwalk Resort were after. Think “Hello Dolly” with all of the fancy trim and white paint. One note that I found personally impactful in the decor is that the books on the wall are real. Pardon me an F. Scott Fitzgerald moment, but the attention to detail of the designers going the extra mile to find actual books from the era really added a good flavor to the motif.
Coming up to it, the lounge is very unassuming; it’s almost like the hallway ends into what looks like a waiting room, but there’s a bar there too. Of course, it is a bar, but bar seating at the actual bar itself is limited to about four or five seats. The rest of Belle Vue takes the word “lounge” very seriously by forgoing traditional table seating for recliners and couches, which only adds to the “waiting room” metaphor. If only the actual check-in counter came with drinks!
Food & Drink
On the topic of drinks, we were very pleased with the selection and craft of what we experienced. Being an early 1900s American-themed establishment, their best drinks are those that involve whiskey and bourbon, though there are also some tried-and-true classics like the Tom Collins and the gimlet, as well as their own spin on a mule with pineapple and mint. That being so, even though there is a margarita on the menu, there are a host of much more specialized options here that you will not find at other lounges on-property.
If couches aren’t your thing, there is balcony seating attached, complete with rocking chairs. The balconies overlook the main courtyard of the Inn and out to the water, and the ambience of sitting on the second floor listening to the sounds of the Boardwalk, drink-in-hand, is an unmatched experience. If one is lucky enough to have the sun in the right spot to have your balcony in the shade, it can be difficult to leave once your drink is finished.
Adulting WDW Take
The Belle Vue Lounge is a hidden gem among the lounges of Disney World. However, the unique drink selection and theming of the decor put this on the list of lounges to visit more than once. If you ever find yourself taking a break from the parks, doing a boat bar crawl, or just walking on a nice day, the Belle Vue Lounge is the perfect stop.
